Coral Festival 2023

Held from the 27th - 30th April 2023, Coral Festival brought together members of the local community, local and international coral scientists, NGOs, environmental activists, ocean experts, school children and university students, industry representatives and artists in celebration of our coral reefs. 

Debates, talks, stalls, performances, excursions and workshops and multimedia presentations invited participants to appreciate the importance of their coral reefs and marine ecosystems to the economic and ecological well being of the Maldives, the Indian Ocean, and the planet.

Coral Festival 2020

MCI held a Coral Festival in Thulusdhoo, Kaafu Atoll, celebrating the importance of Maldivian coral reefs and provoking debate about how best to protect them. It was attended by school children, university students, scientists, researchers, practitioners, various stakeholders and decision makers, and ocean lovers from across the country.

Coral Workshop

MCI held a Coral Workshop in Thulusdhoo, Kaafu Atoll, involving experts from Maldives and abroad, to take stock of the state of Maldivian reefs and inform an effective program of work for the MCI. This workshop was supported by the Government of Canada.
